The book, co-authored by professors Adalat Tahirzade and Oghuztoghrul Tahirli and prepared for publication by the TEAS Academic Centre for Azerbaijani Studies (TACAS), is about the fate of 120 students sent to foreign countries for education by the Azerbaijani Democratic Republic in January 1920.

The book, on which the authors worked for over 15 years, is made up of 1,222 pages. The book contains more than 1,000 rare photos, many of which are introduced to readers for the first time. The authors used 465 archive documents taken from 17 archives of Azerbaijan, Turkey, Russia, Ukraine and Georgia, 114 old prints, 104 books, 133 articles and 15 internet materials.

PhD, assistant professor Asgar Guliyev is the science editor of the book. Doctor of Historical Sciences, Professor Karim Shukurov wrote the book's foreword titled “Education issues in the history of Azerbaijani statehood”. Director of ANAS Institute of History, correspondent member of ANAS Yagub Mahmudov, former department head of UNESCO Ramiz Abutalibov and academician-secretary of the Department of Humanitarian Sciences, academician Teymur Kerimli gave a conclusion to the book.

The monograph consists of three parts. The 189-page first part covers detailed historical background of the history of sending the students abroad. This part reflects history of higher education of the Azerbaijanis and list of 774 compatriots graduating from universities till 1920. The 115-page second part covers the full text of 93 documents taken from various archives, translated from Arabian into Latin, from Russian into Azerbaijani. The 740-page third part reflects biography of each of 102 students.

The book is intended for a wide audience.
