Georgian PM: I believe Georgia to become NATO member in near future

Tbilisi. Nizami Mammadzadeh – APA. The 10th annual Georgia Defence and Security Conference (GDSC) is underway in Tbilisi.

Present at the conference are Georgia’s Prime Minister Giorgi Kvirikashvili, Minister of Defence Tinatin Khidasheli, Vice President of the United States Atlantic Council Damon Wilson, NATO officials, representatives of international organizations, representatives of diplomatic corps accredited in Georgia and military experts, MPs, and others from more than 50 countries, APA’s Georgia bureau reported.

Kvirikashvili, Wilson, and EU officials in their speech drew attention to the regional developments and conflict and emphasized the importance of peace and stability.

He said that NATO-Georgia relations have huge potential and.

“Making efficient use of NATO mechanisms and programmes, Georgia is achieving successful results. Cooperation with NATO is of immense importance. I’m absolutely convinced that unity and joint efforts will bring about massive achievements. I believe Georgia is going to be a member of the Alliance in the foreseeable future,” he stressed.

Wilson in his turn noted the importance of strategic cooperation. “We need to make a friend out of the enemy,” he said.

Representatives of Azerbaijan’s embassy in Georgia are also participating in the conference, which will continue tomorrow.
