Turkey remains committed to supporting TAP and TANAP till end - <span style="color: red;">UPDATED-2

The minister noted that the TAP and TANAP are only way for creation of chain of a safe transnational value: “By this way, it will be possible to have competitive, dynamic, effective and sustainable energy markets within the cooperation and partnership. Turkey is ready to discuss all economic projects to diversify the supply, as well as strengthen energy security”.

Deputy Prime Minister of Azerbaijan Yagub Eyyubov said that TAP creates condition for diversification not only energy sources, by also energy routes to the European countries: “This project will provide a serious support to European countries in energy security”.

TAP project will create a condition for access of new gas to European market, the US Secretary of State John Kerry said in his letter delivered by the Special Envoy and Coordinator for International Energy Affairs at the US Department of State Amos Hochstein to the participants of the TAP groundbreaking ceremony.

“The SGC will transport over 10 bcm of gas from Azerbaijan to Europe. This project will create a condition for access of new gas to European market. Therefore, not only the SGC, but also the works related to Greece-Bulgaria gas interconnector must be continued. TAP and SGC will contribute to European energy security. Today’s ceremony is the most important step taken for completion of the SGC. Consequently, both regional and European energy sources will be diversified. The US will continue its support to this project”, the letter said.

Baku. Agshin Rafigoglu - APA-Economics. Measures have been taken to protect environment during construction of the Trans Adriatic Pipeline (TAP), Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras said at the groundbreaking ceremony.

“The works meet the most stringent requirements. Moreover, €32 mln was granted to the local communities. The project is significant to reduce jobless level. TAP will support Greek economy, as well as industrial development”, the PM said.

Baku. Agshin Rafigoglu - APA-Economics. Groundbreaking ceremony of the Tans Adriatic Pipeline (TAP) has kicked off in Thessaloniki, Greece.

Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras said at the ceremony that the construction of the TAP is being carried out in the important moment for economy of Greece and the region. According to him, TAP praises the regional cooperation: “The project has too geostrategic and economic importance. The pipeline will transport 10 bcm of gas per year. However, it may increase to 20 bcm in the future. 8,000 people will be involved in the construction works. Involvement of Greek companies in the project is important for us”.

The First Deputy Prime Minister Yagub Eyyubov is leading the Azerbaijani delegation in the groundbreaking ceremony. Energy Minister Natig Aliyev is also attending the ceremony.

The ceremony was also attended by vice-president of the European Commission in charge of the Energy Union Maroš Šefčovič, Special Envoy and Coordinator for International Energy Affairs at the US Department of State Amos Hochstein, State Secretary of the Council of Ministers of the Italian Republic Claudio De Vincenti, Georgian Prime Minister Giorgi Kvirikashvili and energy ministers of countries participating in the project.

The TAP is designed to transport Shahdeniz 2 gas to the Western Europe through Greece and Albania. The pipeline’s initial capacity makes 10 billion cubic metres (bcm) of gas per year. In future, the addition of two extra compressor stations could double throughput to more than 20 bcm as additional energy supplies come on stream in the wider Caspian region. The pipeline is expected to transport Azerbaijani gas in 2019.

TAP shareholders: SOCAR (20%), BP (20%), “Snam” (20%), “Fluxys” (16%), “Enagas” (16%) and “Axpo” (5%).

The length is 1,800 km.
