Baku-APA. U.S. and EU support a number of energy infrastructure projects in Europe, reads a joint statement of the U.S.-EU Energy Council on last Wednesday in Washington.

“The Council reiterated its strong support for the opening of the Southern Gas Corridor, including the construction of the Trans-Adriatic Pipeline (TAP) and underscored the importance of the Greece-Bulgaria Interconnector and the construction of liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminals, in Croatia (with evacuation pipelines), as well as in Greece if there is market demand,” said in a statement .

The "Southern Gas Corridor" is a priority for the EU projects and considers transportation of 10 billion cubic meters of Azerbaijani gas from the Caspian region via Georgia and Turkey to Europe.

The TAP pipeline is meant to transport natural gas from the giant Shah Deniz 2 field in Azerbaijan to Europe. The approximately 870 km long TAP will connect with the Trans Anatolian Pipeline (TANAP) at the Turkish-Greek border at Kipoi, cross Greece and Albania and the Adriatic Sea, before coming ashore in southern Italy.

The meeting of the U.S.-EU Energy Council was held on Wednesday and co-chaired by Secretary of State John Kerry and EU foreign policy chief Federica Mogherini.
