Leyla Aliyeva: Azerbaijan â€“ land of rich historical traditions

She made the remarks at the Youth Event that kicked off in Baku on April 25 on the sidelines of the 7th UNAOC Global Forum. The forum is being held in Baku on April 25-27.

Azerbaijan is one of the major countries on the historic Silk Road, Aliyeva said “This factor has affected our culture and turned Azerbaijan into a country open to tolerance and dialogue,” she noted.

Aliyeva went on to add that Azerbaijan has rich biodiversity and is place full of forests, mountains and rivers.

“We love Azerbaijan and I’m sure that you will love our country for these reasons as well,” she said.

Leyla Aliyeva, as the FAO Goodwill Ambassador, mentioned that today every second one person dies of starvation.

Children are the ones that die most often, she said, stressing that the FAO tries to eliminate hunger in the world.

“However, we must all work together to prevent hunger-related deaths. Food is an integral part of intercultural communication. Food safety is very important,” Aliyeva added.

The FAO and the UNAOC continue joint efforts to ensure food safety and promote intercultural dialogue, according to Aliyeva.

“We have launched the IDEA (International Dialogue for Environmental Action) campaign,” she said. “As part of this campaign, we have planted more than 5 million trees over the last five years. We are working will local communities to insure trees not to be cut down.”

“We have strived to build cooperation with international organizations. We have attracted new participants to our campaign and have tried to make these activities not to be bored and exhausting,” she added.

Today modern society is passing through a trial, according to Aliyeva.

“Our life is changing every second,” she said. “Today in the world one elephant dies every 15 minutes and thousands of sharks are killed every hour. We can have such time when all animal species can disappear. You all can play a role in protecting the environment. It’s time to act. We will achieve brighter, greener and better future,” Aliyeva concluded.
