President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation: "Our greatest achievement is gaining the respect and trust of the Azerbaijani people"

Our greatest achievement over the years is winning the respect and trust of the Azerbaijani people", Azerbaijani first lady, president of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, UNESCO and ISESCO goodwill ambassador, MP Mehriban Aliyeva said at the award ceremony of “Person of the Year” by National Hero Chingiz Mustafayev Foundation and ANS Group of Companies, APA reports.

According to Mehriban Aliyeva the first European Games has a special place among memorable events of the previous year: "In taking this decision, the European Olympic Committee was based on several factors - the existing in our country's infrastructure, sports infrastructure, the achievements of our athletes in the international arena, the great attention to the sports, and, of course, the overall development of our country. As Chairman of the Organizing Committee, I am very happy that we are in a short period allotted for the preparation - just two and a half years at a high level were able to prepare and conduct the game".

Mehriban Aliyeva recalled that the presentation of the Games was held in many European capital cities: "At these events, we talked not only about the achievements of Azerbaijan in the field of sport, but also for its history, culture, past and present. Our goal is to popularize Azerbaijan in the world not only as a country with great energy, but also as a country with rich history and culture. We have used these events as an opportunity to promote and represent our country in the world. The Heydar Aliyev Foundation has made a huge contribution in this area. Abroad, in different countries and cities around the world, we have conducted more than 250 such events, days of culture of Azerbaijan. At each of these events, we try to bring to the world community the historical realities of Azerbaijan. I have always been repeatedly telling about Nagorno-Karabakh, as recognized by the world community as an integral part of Azerbaijan and seven surrounding districts, occupation of 20 percent of the territory of our country, the fact that a million Azerbaijanis became refugees and IDPs. In the occupied territories of the enemy took aim at our cultural and historical heritage. As you know, in these areas there are about 900 cultural, religious and historical monuments of Azerbaijan. Most of them are destroyed. Of course, using this opportunity, every time we raise this topic, each time talking about it. We are trying to re-direct the world's attention on the solution of the Armenian-Azerbaijani Nagorno-Karabakh conflict".

Mehriban Aliyeva noted that this year the Foundation will celebrate the 12th anniversary of its activity: "Of course, our activities are multilateral. Education, culture, youth care, environmental protection and so on. Our greatest achievement over the years was winning the respect and trust of the Azerbaijani people. You know, we receive thousands of letters. In most cases, people in these letters they write that Heydar Aliyev Foundation is their last hope. We are very well aware of this responsibility, and from the first days of our work said that, along with the implementation of large-scale projects of national significance, we will try to stay close to the people, the citizens, please contact us to hear them and to participate in solving their problems. We worked on this principle. I think that won the respect due to this. Because we are not a single letter does not leave unanswered, try to listen to people and be with them. Over the years with the support of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation more than 50 thousand people received treatment in our country, and abroad, have returned to normal life”.

"Over the years, the Heydar Aliyev Foundation took part in the restoration of 50 religious, historical and cultural monuments in our country. At the same time we have participated in the restoration of more than 40 religious and cultural monuments in the world, in different countries and cities around the world", - said Mehriban Aliyeva.
