Baku-APA. The Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) voted to approve the introduction of the "goal-line" technology starting from this year’s Euro Cup tournament in France, APA reports quoting TASS. "The use of goal-line technology was approved for the final tournament of UEFA Euro 2016 in France, as well as for the 2016/17 UEFA Champions League from the play-offs onwards," the European governing body of football said in its statement on Friday following the UEFA’s Executive Committee’s session in Nyon.

"The system will work alongside additional assistant referees who will continue to monitor all activity in and around the penalty area," the statement said. "The goal-line technology system supplier will be announced in due course." The 2016 UEFA Euro Cup will be held in France between June 10 and July 10 with matches to be played in 10 different locations, namely in Bordeaux, Lens, Lille, Lyon, Marseille, Nice, Paris, Saint-Denis, Saint-Etienne and Toulouse. A total of 24 European national teams qualified for the Euro Cup final tournament in 2016, after the contestants’ format, which was used since 1996, was decided to be extended from 16 to 24 teams.
