Report on results of first European Games to be presented in EOC General Assembly

Azerbaijan’s Minister of Youth and Sports Azad Rahimov will join the Assembly to present a report on the results of the first European Games held in the country, the ministry of youth and sports told APA.

President of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) Thomas Bach, President of the European Olympic Committees (EOC) Patrick Hickey and President of the Association of National Olympic Committees (ANOC) Sheikh Ahmad Al-Fahad Al-Sabah will take part in the Assembly.

Minister Rahimov in his speech will speak about the first European Games successfully organized in Azerbaijan under the supervision of country’s first lady Mehriban Aliyeva, who chaired the first European Games Organizing Committee.

At the same time, the minister will tell about the survey conducted among more than 150,000 young people on the contributions the major sports event made to the country. As a result, 80 percent of respondents felt that the Games played a positive role in promoting Azerbaijan. Rahimov will also inform that over 2,500 employees and over 12,000 volunteers were involved in the European Games Executive Committee and more than 1,200 media representatives covered this major sports event.

Reports about the Rio de Janeiro and Tokyo Summer Olympics and PyeongChang 2018 Winter Olympics will also be presented as part of the Assembly.

Discussions on holding of the second European Games, presentations on preparations for Buenos Aires 2018 Summer Youth Olympic Games and Lillehammer 2016 Winter Youth Olympic Games are included on the Assembly’s agenda.

The EOC 44th General Assembly will last for November 21.
