Given the fact that Vitaly Mutko’s statement could be distorted by Russian media, we will appeal to the Russian ministry of sports to obtain more accurate information, said the ministry.

“We decisively declare that under any circumstances, neither the Azerbaijani government nor the Azerbaijani ministry of youth and sports sent such a request not only to the Russian government but also to individual officials,” the ministry noted.

The ministry went on to add that Azerbaijan successfully hosted the first European Games which were highly praised by the European Olympic Committees, national Olympic committees of various countries and other international organizations.

The ministry says there is no need for Azerbaijan asking a country to host the next games.

“Furthermore, we inform that this is something that is dealt with by the European Olympic Committees, national Olympic committees and countries willing to organize the games. Projects of this type in Russia are under the authority of the Russian Olympic Committee. No matter which country is going to host the second European Games, Azerbaijan is ready to share the information potential and experience it learned from the first games and to direct specialists in support and aid of that country,” said the statement.
