"Over the past 24 hours all the tasks set to the Russian air group for making pinpoint strikes on the IS facilities in Syria have been carried out in full. The objective control data show that the Russian airstrikes were delivered only on the terrorist infrastructure facilities of the IS group," Klimov said.

"Not a single airstrike was planned or launched on the civil infrastructure facilities where civilians might stay," the official said.

The Russian Aerospace Forces began making pinpoint strikes on the Islamic State facilities on Wednesday afternoon — September 30. The Russian Defense Ministry reported that Russian aircraft during the day delivered strikes on eight positions of terrorists and during the night attacked four more IS positions. In particular, the ministry said, the militants’ headquarters near the Idlib city, a plant for the production of explosives and ammunition north of the Homs city and a number of other targets were destroyed.

On Wednesday, the Russian Federation Council upper house of parliament unanimously granted permission to the Russian president to use the nation’s military force in Syria. "The Federation Council unanimously supported the president’s request — 162 votes in favour [of granting permission]," Kremlin chief of staff Sergei Ivanov said. Russia will use only its Air Force in Syria against IS on request of Syrian President Bashar Assad, Ivanov said, adding that no ground operation was planned.

Defense Ministry spokesman Igor Konashenkov told reporters on Wednesday that in accordance with a decision by the Supreme Commander-in-Chief Vladimir Putin Russian Air and Space Force planes started an operation to deal pinpoint strikes against ground targets of the IS terrorist group in the territory of the Syrian Arab Republic. "The Russian Defense Minister, General of the Army Sergei Shoigu has told his counterparts in the Collective Security Treaty Organization that in the course of the military operation in Syria Russian warplanes have been attacking military equipment, communication centers, vehicles and munitions and fuel and lubricants depots of the Islamic State terrorists.
