Russian President Vladimir Putin, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, as well as representatives from a number of Muslim countries, ambassadors and senior officials of other religious confessions in Russia attended the opening ceremony.

In his speech, Erdogan expressed pleasure for attending the opening of the mosque in Moscow. “I am sure that the opening of the mosque at a time when we need humanity, will contribute to establishing peace in the world. Russia is a good example for coexistence of people of different faiths,” he said.

Erdogan noted that because of Israel’s unjust stance against Palestine the Al-Aqsa Mosque is in dangerous situation.

“People fleeing Syria, Iraq, Libya and Egypt are seeking shelter in Europe. We are witnessing this embarrassing scene today. Dying in the Mediterranean Sea is the conscience of humanity. We should extinguish with our love the fire that has broken out in the Middle East,” he stressed.

Putin in his turn called the opening of the mosque a great historical event for the Muslims of Russia.

“Islam is one of the traditional religions in Russia. I thank fraternal countries Turkey and Kazakhstan for the reconstruction of the mosque. The Qur’an tells us to do good deeds. Muslim traces have always existed in our history. There some who manipulate people’s spiritual feelings for their own political ambitions. We see what atrocities are being committed – destruction of the lives and historical monuments – in the name of Islam,” said Putin.

Note that, the three-storey mosque with two minarats and an area of 19,000 square meters, is one of the largest mosques in Europe. The construction of the mosque has cost 170 million dollars.
