Azerbaijan deports Turkish citizens for Nur movement propaganda

The Yasamal district court fined Turkish citizens Sunkur Nurulla and Senol Miktat AZN 2000 under article #300.04 (violation of the law on religious freedom) of the Code of Administrative Offences.

Under the court decision, they were deported from Azerbaijan. In addition, 5 Azerbaijani citizens faced fine AZN 1500.

On September 21, the Interior Ministry issued statement on the detention of 85 people in Baku’s Yasamal district. The statement says that as a result of operations carried out by the police, 85 people, suspected of promoting the Nur movement in Mubariz Asadov’s house in Baku, were detained on September 19.

3,000 religious books, dissemination of which was prohibited by law, were seized from the house.

Protocol were drawn up regarding 2 persons under article #300 of the Code of Administrative Offences, and regarding 5 under article #299.0.2, then they were released.
