Gabala. Elvin Yagubov – APA. Minister of Communication and High Technologies Ali Abbasov has commented on TeliaSonera’s plan to leave Azerbaijan’s market.

According to APA’s local bureau, the minister said TeliaSonera planned to reduce the presence in Region Eurasia and focus on its Regions Europe and Sweden within the strategy of creating the new TeliaSonera: “This decision was passed by Board of Directors of the Company. The Group of companies is not direct shareholder of Azercell Telekom and other 6 mobile operators in the CIS. Finland and Turkey have FinTur joint venture. That venture is the shareholder of Azercell Telekom. But, TeliaSonera is selling its share in FinTur. Therefore, Azercell Telekom and other 6 mobile operators will not feel this sale because of their share will be passed to smaller company from larger company. I hope there will not be any problem”.

Abbasov noted that the situation will be considered depending on potential of a new company which will buy Azercell’s stakes in the future: “Azercell Telekom is a big company and its earnings are too much. These earnings allow it to make investments. No Azercell subscriber will feel the sale process. Azercel Telekom operates in accordance with the law and will continue its activity”.
