Martirosyan, who earlier asked Azerbaijan for political asylum, made the remarks at a press conference in Baku on Sept.18.

He said that though millions of dollars are spent to create a new infrastructure in Shusha, there are no people in the city. “The rest are the elderly persons. There are no young people. If you walk in Khankandi in the evening, you will see that there is no light in any residential building. This conflict is in the interest of the Sargsyan’s government. They are not Armenians. They do not love Armenians,” he added.

Martirosyan said that he doesn’t want Armenian people to live in conditions like now.

“I love my country. No one except the Azerbaijani media can inform the world about Sargsyan’s criminal government. The people live worse than any African country. Just for appearance, there are offices, hotels in the centre of Yerevan. However, toward outskirts, you can see that people are starving. There are destroyed buildings. Nagorno-Karabakh war veterans are the poorest. Finding work in Armenia is like a miracle. Retirement is $80 and one can go to market only twice with this money. My grandmother worked in high position and receives $100 retirement. She is regarded as an oligarch. No one can survive without assistance. Corruption, bribery prevails everywhere,” he stressed.

Martirosyan said that he appealed to the offices of the United Nations and International Red Cross Society in Azerbaijan: “I want them to contact with Armenia in any form. I left my mother there. My wife’s family is also there. I don’t know how the government will treat with them. I would like them to check their conditions,” he added.

Vahan Emilyevich Martirosyan, head of the Armenian Intra-national Liberation Movement, together with his wife and underage child fled to Azerbaijan to seek political asylum to protect himself and his family.

For its activities, the opposition Intra-national Liberation Movement organization, led by Martirosyan has faced prosecution from Armenian state authorities and different officials.
