Baku not to bid for 2024 Olympics

IOC announced the cities bidding for 2024 Olympics. Los Angeles, Hamburg, Rome, Budapest and Paris will compete to host the 2024 Games. Deadline for 2024 bid submissions is Sept. 15.

Along with Baku, Toronto also decided not to bid for the Games.

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) will elect the winner at a vote in Lima, Peru, in September 2017.

Spokesperson for Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Youth and Sports Samaya Mammadova confirmed to APA Azerbaijan’s decision not to bid for 2024 Olympics.

This decision was taken due to the fact that Azerbaijan will host major international events – Formula 1 European Grand Prix and World Chess Olympiad in 2016, the fourth Islamic Solidarity Games in 2017 and the quarterfinals and three group games of the UEFA EURO 2020, the spokesperson said, adding “preparation for Rio 2016 Olympics also requires great work and attention.”
