Man serving life for killing of ATUC deputy chairman’s wife dies in medical facility

Deputy chief of the medical department of the Justice Ministry's Penitentiary Service Iftikhar Gurbanov told APA that prisoner Alaqif Abbasov who was receiving treatment in the ministry’s medical facility has died suddenly.

“His ward mates say he unexpectedly became breathless and died. His body was sent to examination. What caused his death will become clear after examination,” he said.

Note that, Elmira Khalid qizi Dadashova (1955), the wife of deputy chairman of the Azerbaijan Trade Union Confederation (ATUC) Aqil Dadashov was stabbed to death by Alaqif Abbasov on August 14, 2013. The murderer has initially said he entered the home for burglary. He was then found guilty of committing burglary from several other houses too. Alaqif Abbasov had been detained by the Interior Ministry’s Crime Investigation Department and the Absheron district police department on August 16 on charges of deliberate murder. He is convicted of stealing AZN860 from Ibrahim Huseynov’s house and golden items (Aug.11), attempting to steal from Kanan Huseynquliyev’s house (Aug.14) as well as stealing money, gold and household items from the houses of Chichek village resident Elshan Jalilov, Hokmali village resident Mirkhas Aghayev and Kanan Mammadov during April-June of this year.

In addition, the investigation found that Abbasov has stolen from the office of the company “BÉ™rÉ™kÉ™t-98” the safe with AZN 100 and seal inside and from the house owned by Reyhan Muzaffarova AZN 2850.

Abbasov was jailed for life under the decision of Baku Court of Grave Crimes. An appeal filed against the court decision was rejected.

It is also noted that Abbasov was serving his sentence in the Gobustan prison, and a little earlier, he was transferred to the medical facility of the Justice Ministry.
