Russia and Kazakhstan plan to unite air defense systems

Baku-APA. Russia and Kazakhstan want to unite their air defense systems, Pavel Kurachenko, the head of the Russian Aerospace Forces, said on Tuesday, APA reports quoting TASS.

The two countries signed an agreement on creation of a united air defense system in 2013.

"At this stage, we are rehearsing coordination among groups of troops and are laying down the legislative framework for this unified system," Kurachenko said.

General Nurlan Ormanbetov, the commander-in-chief of the Air Defense Forces of Kazakhstan, will command the united regional Air Defense system.

Russia also wants to create united regional anti-aircraft defense system with Armenia, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan, Kurachenko said. A draft agreement between Armenia and Russia on creation of a united regional air defense system in the Caucasus has been approved by both states, which are ready to sign it.

"I hope we are going to finalize all the details this year," Kurachenko concluded.

According to him, agreements on creation of united regional anti-aircraft defense system with Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan are being discussed at inter-departmental levels.
