Baku-APA. At least six suspected militants and two army personnel, including a colonel have been killed in a clash in North Waziristan tribal region, Pakistani army said on Monday, APA reports quoting Anadolu Agency.

According to Pakistani army's media wing, the clash occurred in the region’s remote Shawal Valley near the Afghanistan border.

The army had launched a full-scale operation in North Waziristan, one of seven semi-autonomous tribal regions in Pakistan, in June 2014, hoping to eliminate the Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan and affiliated militant networks in the area.

Over 3,000 suspected militants, and more than 350 troops, according to the official figures, have been killed in the ongoing operation. The figures, however, cannot be verified since the Pakistani army has declared the region off-limits to the media. Around a million people have also been displaced by the military operation.
