Trial begins on case of Yegishe Gevorkyan who crossed into Azerbaijan with family

The investigation into the case has been finalized of Yegishe Gevorkyan who crossed into Azerbaijan by his own will a few years ago because of the miserable situation and extreme poverty prevailing in Armenia. The case has been handed over to a court, according to a statement issued by the press service of Armenia’s court department, APA reported.
Note that, on 10 January 2010, Armenian citizens Gevorkyan Yegishe Petrosovich (1958) and his family members – his wife Mardanyan Ruzanna Genoyevna (1982), his sons Gevorkyan Alfred Yegishevich (2002) and Mardanyan Petros Yegishevich (2006), and his daughter Gevorkyan Gayane Yegishevna (2003) illegally crossed into the territory of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic for the purpose of living in the territory of a third country. Out of respect to the norms of international humanitarian law and the Geneva Conventions of 12 Aug.1949, Azerbaijan handed over them to the opposite side on 12 December 2014.
The Armenian National Security Service announced that it had opened a criminal case against him on the article of crossing the state border illegally. When he was handed over to Armenia with his family, his pretrial detention was replaced with a restraining order on not leaving Armenia.
