Baku – APA. Azerbaijani President, Supreme Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces Ilham Aliyev, in his speech at the opening of a naval base on Thursday, congratulated the servicemen on the upcoming Armed Forces Day.

The president said the opening of a new base on the eve of the holiday is a remarkable event.

The head of state noted that the base, which is one of the largest military facility ever created in Azerbaijan, will be key to boosting the country’s military capability.

“The state has been doing its utmost for the strengthening of the Armed Forces. The development of the Naval Forces, which is part of the Armed Forces, will continue to be on the spotlight. The army is gaining in strength, discipline is developing, and logistic support is improving. Military expenses from the state budget are growing. Azerbaijan’s military expenses are currently over 3 billion dollars – twice bigger than the state budget of Armenia,” added President Aliyev.

Speaking about the care for servicemen, military infrastructure, construction of new military bases, units and settlements, and the solution of domestic problems of the servicemen, the president stressed that necessary actions will be taken in the future. Azerbaijan is enlarging its military inventory with modern weapons, ammunition and equipment. Today, the Azerbaijani Army is among the world's strongest armies in terms of logistics and combat capability. The weaponry and equipment we have at our disposal today enables us to carry out any duty with honor. Moreover, about 10 years ago, upon my decision, a military-industrial complex was built in Azerbaijan. Today, nearly 1,000 kinds of military products are being manufactured in Azerbaijan. Azerbaijan is also exporting its defense products. This is also an indicator of the country's military potential,” the head of state noted.
