Verses from the Koran were recited at the event, which was attended by CMO Chairman Sheikh-ul-Islam Haji Allahshukur Pashazadeh, Chairman of the State Committee on Religious Organizations Mubariz Gurbanov as well as leaders of local religious communities, APA reported.

Later on, the CMO Gazi Council and the Scientific-Religious Council issued a joint fatwa.

“According to this year’s calculations, the 1st of Ramadan falls on the 18th of June 2015 in the Gregorian calendar. Eid al-Fit – the Ramadan holiday – falls on the 1st of Shawwal – the 18th of July – the day the holiday prayer will be performed.

I would like to note the government of Azerbaijan has reached a decision on declaring two-day holiday for both Eid al-Adha and Eid al-Fitr.

On the final day of Ramadan, Muslims are due to pay Sadaqat-ul-fitr, a certain amount of charity obligatory upon Muslims which they pay to the poor and the needy. The Gazi Council has concluded that worth AZN 5-10 per capita is recommended to be given in charity.

The Gazi Council and the Scientific-Religious Council warn spiritual figures that people should avoid breaking their fast before Iftar during the holy month. Strict actions will be taken against religious figures who disregard this warning,” says the fatwa.
