Minister Mammadyarov noted that three of the six Eastern Partnership countries have chosen to develop relations with the EU on association and two others on free trade zone.

“Azerbaijan forms the third group. We’re establishing bilateral relations,” he added.

According to Mammadyarov, Azerbaijan tried a lot during the Eastern Partnership summit to have formula for the settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict included in the final declaration.

“European partners held that the formula quite a detailed one. Nonetheless, we insisted till the last moment and even told them that we could hold back from signing the document. Consequently, the parties came up with a compromised option – to state an extra opinion on the declaration,” the FM stressed.
