Baku. Farid Mirzayev – APA. “There was some stability in Afghanistan after Soviet troops withdrew from the country. With the 11 September event, the United States put an end to this stability and the conflict in Afghanistan became almost endless,” former Afghan President Hamid Karzai said Tuesday at a panel within the Baku 3rd Global Forum, APA reported.
Karzai remarked in his speech the United States did not bring the peace they had been anticipating.
“The United States saved Afghanistan from Al Qaeda but failed to bring the peace we had been longing for. The conflicts that lasted more than 30 years in Afghanistan brought into existence an illegal economy in the country. On top of all of these, we adopted the country’s Constitution, and the parliament was formed. All sides of the conflict found their seat at the parliament. We were so close to the solution of problems in Afghanistan. Regrettably, it did not happen. There was external influence. Today the Taliban is acting against us, NATO forces. And we consider them as a foreign power. I’m hopeful that Afghanistan will soon become a safe country. Our government is legitimate. I thank Azerbaijan for its support,” said Karzai.
