Baku – APA. The work of one Azerbaijan’s most prolific contemporary artists Farhad Khalilov will go on display in London this month.
Art enthusiasts are expected to flock to the world-famous Saatchi Gallery to see the abstract expressionistic work of Farkhad Khalilov, which will be on display from 11 – 23 March 2015.
The exhibition is part of the Buta Festival - a celebration of Azerbaijani art and culture across London, which launched in November 2014.
As the head of the Azeri Artist Union, Khalilov is one of the most prolific Azerbaijani artistic exports, particularly known for his unique, colour field style of painting – which is how he says he sees the world around him. The artist’s work is unique within its milieu, the Caucasus region. It is honed in endless hours of studio work; the palette is often bleak and severe, yet the rich textures and delicate compositions convey a luminous and forceful beauty.
Following his first solo exhibition in London in 2011, this is a rare opportunity for the European art community to view the canvases. The show is sponsored by philanthropist and art collector, Farkhad Akhmedov.

Whereas his earlier seascapes could be described as contemplative and representational, Khalilov’s newer paintings are freely improvised expressions of abstract emotion and feelings.
The exhibition will focus on the artist’s most recent paintings, works from the beginning stages of his career will also be presented alongside and a number of works on paper.

Khalilov Farhad Kurban-ogli born in 1946 in Baku studied art at the Public Art School in Baku, the Moscow Industrial Art College and Moscow Polygraphic Institute. He has had successful solo exhibitions in cities around the world including Baku, Moscow, Paris and Berlin. In 1987 Farkhad was awarded with a Silver Medal of the USSR Academy of Arts and in 2006 Grand Prix of the Teheran Biennale. The artist’s works are held in the State Museums of Russia, Azerbaijan, the Ukraine, Lithuania, Germany, China, in the International Confederation of Artists Unions’ Reserves, in private collections in the USA, Mexico, Germany, Poland, France, and other countries. Khalilov is the People’s Artist of Azerbaijan and chairman of the Union of Artists of Azerbaijan.
