Baku-APA. Several people were detained in northern German city of Bremen in a raid against violence threats, local police announced on Saturday evening, APA reports quoting Xinhua.

The police said in a statement that they received alerts from a federal agency on Friday evening about increasing risks of violence and launched "a security net" in Bremen city center on Saturday morning.

Police forces were strengthened and protective measures were taken in a Jewish community, according to the statement.

In an operation against a suspect and a cultural center in the afternoon, several people were detained, said the police, adding that one was provisionally arrested.

The police said more operations were going on in the city and measures in the coming days would depend on the result of investigations.

Earlier this month, Braunschweig, another northern German city, cancelled its carnival parade due to a concrete attack threat.

In an European police congress on Wednesday, German domestic intelligence chief Hans-Georg Maassen said Germany faces terrorist attack threats as around 200 jihadists who were involved in wars in Iraq and Syria have returned to Germany.
