According to apasport.az, the statement clarified reports about the funding of national Olympic committees due to attend the games by the Azerbaijani side.
The statement also said this has been one of the essential parts of talks on similar support (grants) provided to the Summer and Winter Olympic Games as well as other international competitions, and on the European Games, which is scheduled to be first held in Azerbaijan.
“Undoubtedly, this demand was part of the agreement with the host city and the obligation the EOC imposed on the Baku-2015 European Games Organizing Committee. The grants calculated based on the number of the participating sportsmen and women and accompanying officials equally concern all 50 national Olympic committees of Europe that will attend the games,” said the statement.
After the competition comes to an end, the European Olympic Committees, as the governing body, will allocate the €2.5 million gained from the games' incomes among all national Olympic committees and federations on all kinds of sports included in the games, in the same way as the International Olympic Committee (IOC).
“Sportspersons are the basis of any big competition. From this point of view, paying the organizations responsible for the funding of participating sportspersons is legal and appropriate,” the statement said.
