Interior Ministry spokesman Ehsan Zahidov told APA that Nazarov’s statement doesn’t reflect the reality.

“On June 4, 2014, Yevlakh Region Police Office declared Elshan Nazarov wanted over the Criminal Code’s article 178.3.3 (swindle with causing damage in the large size). Elshan Nazarov was declared internationally wanted as the investigations revealed that he is outside the country,” he said.

Zahidov said it is wrong that Nazarov politicizes this issue with his statements, adding that he was declared wanted over a crime.

APA reported on Nov. 24 that chairman of Azer-Czech Society Elshan Nazarov was declared internationally wanted. A notice posted on the Interpol’s website says that Elshan Nazarov, 40, is convicted of swindle. Azerbaijani law-enforcement bodies appealed to the Interpol for his detention.

E. Nazarov called this issue “small problem”, adding that those persons are trying to politicize the issue.

He also noted that he has been under protection by the Czech Republic for 17 years: “I hope Baku too will punish those who slandered me. Personally, I’m ready to cooperate with relevant authorities of both countries”.

Azerbaijan’s State Committee on Work with Diaspora said it has stopped all relations with the person by name Elshan Nazarov since a few years ago: “The State Committee has several times received complaints concerning his activity”.

E. Nazarov said in a statement to APA he is guiltless.

“In 2012, an Azerbaijani family applied to me in regard to education in the Czech Republic. I helped them. They paid Charles University in Prague € 6,500 education fee. We sent necessary documents, but they couldn’t obtain a visa they didn’t carry out the documentation they were supposed to. We keep all those payment receipts and documents. Although I was not guilty in this affair, I still paid them $3,000 from my own budget. And they threatened me with Azerbaijani law enforcement bodies and demanded more money,” he added.
