Baku. Rufat Ahmadzada – APA. “The helicopter incident had nothing to do with the cancellation of the Venice Commission visit to Azerbaijan,” media spokesman for the Venice Commission, Panos Kakaviatos told APA.

Though some Armenian websites reported that the aforementioned visit was cancelled due to the downing of Armenian helicopter on the contact line of troops in the Nagorno Karabakh, the media spokesman said that this information is wrong: “The helicopter incident had nothing to do with the cancellation of the visit. The cancellation of the Venice Commission visit was due to technical reasons about which I cannot further elaborate.”

Spokesman for the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry, Hikmet Hajiyev told APA that the reports that the two issues are connected with each other are entirely wrong: “Their visit was cancelled due to technical reasons. It has nothing to do with the helicopter incident.”

The representatives of the Venice Commission planned to visit Azerbaijan on November 13-14 to hold meetings with government officials and NGO representatives and prepare an opinion on the amendments made to the law on non-governmental organizations in Azerbaijan.

The draft opinion is planned to be put up for discussion in the plenary session of the Venice Commission in December.
