In the 56th minute, Dortmund doubled the gap with Sokratis. The 34-year-old veteran midfielder of "Die Schwarzgelben," or The Black and Yellows, Sebastian Kehl nodded the ball to Sokratis, who tapped the ball into the net by a volley in the six-yard box, 2-0.

In the 70th minute, Galatasaray narrowed the gap to one. Turkish left-back Hakan Balta headed the ball from a corner, 2-1. Hakan was assisted by Dutch star Wesley Sneijder.

Four minutes later, Borussia Dortmund made it three on a breakaway. Italian striker Ciro Immobile finished in one-on-one, 3-1. In the meantime, Galatasaray goalkeeper Muslera suffered a minor injury after colliding with Immobile.
