He stressed that the correspondence between him and the European Court are not important for investigation. “Intigam Aliyev’s specific acts are being investigated. As far as I know, firstly all the documents were seized from his office. After examining the documents, the correspondence between Intigam Aliyev and the European Court of Human Rights were given back to his office as it is unimportant for investigation. There was no interference by the European Court in this regard. Thus, the investigation is not related to his activity in the Council of Europe, including the European Court”, Mr. Asgarov said.

On return from his visit to Azerbaijan, Council of Europe Commissioner for Human Rights Nils Muižnieks said in his statement that confiscation of correspondence between Intigam Aliyev and the European Court of Human Rights by state authorities can have a negative impact on Azerbaijan’s relations with the European Court.
