Baku. Ramiz Mikayiloglu – APA. Chairman of the Supreme Court Ramiz Rzayev has commented on the statement by President of the European Court of Human Rights Dean Spielmann that he is concerned about the human rights situation in Azerbaijan, APA reports.

“Azerbaijan ensures freedom of the press; journalists ask any kind of questions, write whatever they want”, R.Rzayev told journalists.

Rzayev said anyone expresses their personal opinion on TV, the internet is independent, and everyone writes their opinions freely on social networks and portals.

“They even criticize and insult beyond ethical boundaries. Some opposition groups and NGOs create a stir. What is even worse is that such opposition groups and NGOs are smearing Azerbaijan abroad. If they keep saying something is black, then people will start to think white is indeed black

They have formed such an opinion that there are facts of law violation in Azerbaijan”, he added.

Rzayev also said no country is free from law violation.

“The European Court of Human Rights passes judgment on France, England, and Germany too. It’s quite normal. Law violation can be seen everywhere where human society exists. That is why courts are created. But exaggerating issues regarding Azerbaijan are inadmissible. Some tragic events come about in some neighboring countries. Do they ever highlight them? Some people are just trying to denigrate their own countries. It doesn’t honor anyone. You may feel sorry for any hardship and try to eliminate it. But it’s strange if you see everything in black in the whole country. They darken their own lives as well. Azerbaijan has tremendously developed. And the people attending today’s conference also welcome Azerbaijan’s development. They are all independent persons—doctors, lawyers, etc. Development must not be ignored. At the same time, if there are any deficiencies, we should try to define and eliminate them. Otherwise, it’s not right to say everything is bad. They have formed such an opinion. After reading some newspapers, the president of the European Court of Human Rights too must have concluded that perhaps the situation in Azerbaijan isn’t so good. So we say to him that the situation is not as they think. Hopefully, the president of the European Court of Human Rights wants the situation in Azerbaijan to become even better,” he added.
