Criminal case launched on offshore platform accident in Azerbaijan

The criminal case has been launched on the fact under article #162.2 (violation of labor safety, which on imprudence brought to death of a person) of the Criminal Code, investigation is underway.

The structures collapsed at the faulty platform #441 of the Narimanovneft oil and gas production department of the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan Republic (SOCAR) during the repair works at 12:00 Oct. 23.

As a result of the collapse, a workers’ locker room on the platform fell into the sea. The fire occurred as a pipeline with a diameter of 700 mm over the platform was broken. The fire was extinguished at 12:45.

At the moment of the collapse, there were 41 workers at the site. Thanks to the operative measures taken by a rescue team, 37 workers were evacuated from the site to the shore on Orion-15 and PSK-52 vessels.

The dead bodies of 3 of the 4 workers, missing after an accident, have been found and taken to the shore.

The search for another missing worker is underway.
