Bulgarian President: “Azerbaijan demonstrates itself as a reliable partner”

Baku. Ramiz Mikayiloglu – APA. “Bulgaria is the country which suffered the greatest loss from gas crisis in 2009”, said the Bulgarian President Rosen Plevneliev at the 20th anniversary of the “Contract of the Century” and groundbreaking ceremony of the Southern Gas Corridor.

Bulgarian president noted that the Ukrainian crisis showed how the diversification of energy routes are important: “The Southern Gas Corridor will be end of the dependence for a long years. This project will also be important from the standpoint of competitiveness and offering fair price. This pipeline will supply Bulgaria with gas. Romania, Serbia and other countries also will import gas. We’ll launch merging pipeline with Greece by 2016. We try to launch the pipeline merging Turkey and Greece in a short run”.

Plevneliev noted that 1 bcm of gas will be exported to Bulgaria in 2019 and it will increase in the future: “We’ll also provide access of Azerbaijan to the foreign markets. This is one of the components of Nabucco. Europe does not need new warning, we have to start real works. Today, a significant step is being taken for European energy supply. Azerbaijan demonstrates itself as a reliable partner. We carry out our people’s wills through connecting networks, economies for establishment of friendship and partnership in our region”.
