Baku – APA. 49 Turkish hostages held by Islamic militants have been freed. Davutoglu said the group was released early on Saturday and had arrived in Turkey. APA reports quoting Turkish news agencies that Turkish Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu said that they were being taken to the southern Turkish city of Sanliurfa by the Turkish intelligence agency.

Mr Davutoglu said he decided to cut short a visit to Azerbaijan to meet the released hostages: “We took over our citizens this night and brought to our country. I’ll leave Baku and return to Turkey to embrace with Consul-General, our brothers, citizens. Currently, the hostages have entered the country and are going to Urfa. I’ll directly go to Urfa to meet with them”.

The Turks, including diplomatic staff, were seized from the consulate on June 11, when the Islamic State group overran Mosul and stormed the Turkish Consulate.
