Azerbaijan signs European Convention on Manipulation of Sports Competitions - <span style="color: red;">PHOTO

The conference took place during the Azerbaijani chairmanship of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe that will last till October 31. Therefore, at the opening session of the conference, Azad Rahimov made a speech as a Chair of the CoE Committee of Ministers.

Rahimov said that Azerbaijan has hosted a number of international sporting events and will for the first time host the European Games in 2015. The minister underlined the importance of preventing spectators' violence during games and fight against corruption in sport. Rahimov drew attention to Azerbaijan’s constant cooperation with the Council of Europe in this field.

Resolutions on "Corruption in sport management", "Cooperation between Council of Europe and European Union", “The role of the governments in the World Anti-Doping Code 2015 implementation" and "Review of the 1985 European Convention on Spectator Violence" were adopted at the conference.

During the event, the European Convention on the Manipulation of Sports Competitions was opened for signature. Azerbaijan was the first country signing the convention among the countries participating in the conference. Secretary General of the Council of Europe Thorbjørn Jagland also attended the signing ceremony.

Azerbaijan was represented by Azad Rahimov in the 13th Council of Europe Conference of Ministers responsible for Sport. Head of Swiss Federal Department of Defense, Civil Protection and Sports, Ueli Maurer was elected as a chairman and Minister of Youth and Sports Azad Rahimov as a deputy chairman in the first day of conference.
