Mubariz Gurbanli: Some religious communities intend to possess any mosque without being registered

The State Committee Chairman said if someone built a mosque, it means that he did it for the sake of Allah.

“According to the law, it should be given to the municipality. Then, it should be put into use of the community according to the rules agreed between the state ands Caucasian Muslims Board and the CMB should appoint imam and akhund. However, we are witnessing some problems. Some religious communities intend to possess any mosque without being registered. Someone declares himself as a head of the mosque. Our government does not intend to close any mosque. Our President's policy also shows it. However, if there is any illegally operating organization, we will prevent it through all the means of law”.

Gurbanli said that “Ilahiyyat” Mosque in Yasamal district is operating illegally: “In accordance with agreement between the CMB and the Religious Committee, we must create a community in the mosque. Through the community, we want to create discipline in the mosque”.

Gurbanli said that in this regard, he met with various religious representatives as well as the people, who consider themselves as Wahhabi leaders in several regions.

“I had open conversations with them. I asked them, for example, why they go to pray in the mosque on the other side of town, where there is a mosque nearby. So they have a bad intention. If their purpose is only to pray they can do it in the mosque nearby. If they don’t go to the nearest mosque to pray and gather in another mosque contacting by phone, we think that they want to show us their union. In fact, by massing and using a psychological method, they want to say “we exist as well”. They intend to make an impression on us as if they are dominating. In fact, this is not true. Azerbaijani people are wise and talented. There can be religious enlightenment among our people. There should be religious enlightenment regarding the Holy Quran, its holiness and superiority of Islam, so that our youth become aware of it. We should inform them that the matters promoted by the radicals are not actually right. Sometimes, those persons refer to the Holy Quran, but they interpret the verses as they desire. Thereby, they want to divide the religion”, he said.
