Baku – APA. The Organization Committee of the first Global Forum on Youth Policies to be held in Baku during 28-30 October 2014, held a meeting under the chairmanship of the minister, Mr. Azad Rahimov at the Ministry of Youth and Sport.
More than 20 government’s representatives including Youth Fund under the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Ministry of Internal Affairs, Ministry of National Security, Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Health, Ministry of Transportation, Ministry of Communications and High Technologies, State Telegraph Agency (Azertac), Azerbaijan Television and Radio Broadcasting CJSC, State Migration Service, State Border Service, State Custom Committee, “Azerbaijan Airlines” CJSC, Ministry of Culture and Tourism and State Historical-Architectural Reserve “Icherisheher” participated at the meeting, ministry spokesperson Samaya Mammadova told APA.
The Minister, Mr. Azad Rahimov mentioned the importance of youth in global political processes. In his second term, UN Secretary –General Ban Ki-moon presented youth policies as one of his five priorities and established the Office on Youth Envoy under the UN Secretary General. The Minister also stressed the official visit of Secretary General’s Envoy on Youth, Mr. Ahmed Alhandawi to Azerbaijan and issues discussed during the visit.
Mr. Azad Rahimov: “Azerbaijan was one of first countries bidding to host the Global Forum. A great support was given to an idea of hosting the event in Azerbaijan, after the discussions held in the United Nations in the framework of my official visit in March, 2014 to the United States of America. It must be noted that first ever Global Forum to be held in October in our country will set a new global model on youth policies”.
More than 700 participants from more than 170 countries will join the Global Forum. The aim of the Forum is to explore new perspectives on youth policies, take measures for future development of the field, and conduct exchange programmes on youth policies with different countries. The Guideline, identifying new principles on youth policies, is expected to be prepared during the Forum. Five main partners – United Nations Development Programme, UN Secretary General’s Envoy on Youth, the Council of Europe, UNESCO, and the Government of Azerbaijan are organizing the Global Forum.
