The constitution of Azerbaijan provides for freedom of religion, Chairman of State Committee for Work with Religious Organizations Mubariz Gurbanli said at the meeting “Intercultural dialogue: interaction between culture and religion” within the framework of the 2014 Council of Europe exchange on the religious dimension of intercultural dialogue.

Gurbanli said that Armenia's aggressive policy is not an aggression of a European country against the other, but a serious threat to peace and security. According to him, various religious and ethnic groups and all nations friendly coexist in Azerbaijan.

“Azerbaijan has become a major driving force from an active participant in intercultural dialogue. Mosques, synagogues and churches operate in an environment of tolerance in Azerbaijan”, he stressed.

In his speech, Chairman of Caucasian Muslims Board Sheikh-ul-Islam Haji Allahshukur Pashazadeh said that Azerbaijan is trying to solve the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict within the territorial integrity. Speaking about the role of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation in maintaining spiritual and cultural heritage, religious tolerance Pashazadeh expressed his confidence that the event will play an important role in development of inter-religious dialogue in the world.
