Economic sanctions against Russia will have far-reaching effects — Dutch FM

He said sanctions were to send Moscow a clear signal that it was on the wrong path.

Earlier on Tuesday, the Council of the European Union at the level of permanent representatives from the 28 EU member states preliminarily agreed economic sanctions against Russia to be imposed in the sphere of financial services, supplies of military and dual use products and energy sector innovation technologies exchange.

Speaking at a meeting dedicated to the crash of the Malaysian Boeing-777 in eastern Ukraine, Timmermans said that the number of Dutchmen killed in this crash had increased to 195 when it had been found out that one girl was travelling with Indonesian being a Dutch citizen.

A Boeing-777 of the Malaysia Airlines (flight MH17) en route from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur crashed on July 17 in Ukraine’s eastern Donetsk Region 60 km from the Russian border, in the zone of combat operation between the Donetsk self-defence forces and the Ukrainian army. All the passengers and crewmembers onboard the plane - 298 people - died.
