Baku-APA. Three law enforcement officers were injured in a shootout on Monday afternoon in Greenwich Village of Manhattan in New York City, the authorities said, APA reports quoting Press TV.

Two US Marshals and a New York City Police Department officer were responding to a cyber tip on the whereabouts of a suspect, whom the authorities identified as Charles Mozdir.

The suspect resisted and opened fire, triggering the shootout.

The authorities said the suspect was wanted in a child molestation case and was shot and killed in the exchange of fire.

The suspect’s weapon was recovered at the scene, said Police Commissioner William J. Bratton.

"The suspect who they were seeking to engage, I understand, is deceased and a firearm has been recovered," Bratton said. "Minimum details at this time… The officers are all in treatment at this moment at this moment. There’s a very active crime scene investigation."

It has been reported that the injured law enforcement officers are in stable condition.

Mayor Bill de Blasio, who joined Bratton at a previously scheduled news conference, said, “We pray that everything we’re hearing so far is true, that these officers are going to be okay in the long run.”
