The Moscow city court sentenced Orkhan Zeynalov to 17-year imprisonment on charges of murdering Yegor Sherbakov, APA reports citing Russian sources.

On 10 October 2014, local residents were outraged over 25-year-old Sherbakov being murdered by a Caucasian in Moscow’s Western Birulyovo district. Demanding the arrest of the murderer, hundreds of Russian nationalists and skinheads assaulted Biryuza trade center and Pokrov fruit and vegetable base, beating the migrant employees from Caucasia and Central Asia. Special police forces were sent to the scene. But they were met with resistance of skinheads, who caused a great deal damage to stores inside the building, as well as objects and automobiles nearby. The nasty incident left dozens of migrants and local residents injured.

On October 15, Azerbaijani citizen Orkhan Zeynalov was detained in Kolomna, a city not far from the capital city of Moscow, on suspicion of murdering Sherbakov and he was later taken to Moscow by helicopter.

During the preliminary hearing, Orkhan Zeynalov said he had killed the Russian citizen in self-defense.
