Deputy Defense Minister reveals reasons for sending Azerbaijani servicemen to study in Russia military schools

Baku – APA. Azerbaijan Armed Forces is formed in the direction of integration to the NATO, said the Deputy Minister of Defense, Lieutenant-Colonel Karim Valiyev at the meeting with the heads of media.

He noted the claims that Azerbaijani Army rejects NATO programs and is inclined to the former USSR, Russia military system are groundless.

“It’s unambiguous that Azerbaijan has the way of integration to the NATO. It’s true, we study experience of different countries, including Russia in military sphere, however, the Army is formed in accordance with the NATO standards”, Valiyev said.

He noted that 237 servicemen are studying in the foreign countries now: “We have servicemen studying in Russian military schools. However, most of servicemen are studying in the NATO countries”.

Valiyev also revealed reasons for not completely rejecting Russian schools: “It’s known that Azerbaijani Army mainly uses Russia-based technique and weapons. We need to study in Russian schools to use them. Programs of the Russian education system is not used in tactical and other exercises”.
