Baku. Rashad Suleymanov – APA. “Azerbaijani President has actually sent a letter to the Presidents of Russia, Kazakhstan and Belarus who set up the Eurasian Economic Union,” Deputy Head of the Azerbaijani Presidential Administration and chief of Foreign Relations Department Novruz Mammadov told APA.

Mammadov said that it is normal that a new organization was created in the Eurasian territory: “We are interested in Armenia’s joining the union. Armenia has been keeping under occupation a part of Azerbaijani lands for more than 20 years, ignoring norms and principles of the international law. Thus, we thought about the conditions for Armenia’s accession to the Eurasian Economic Union and Customs Union. Azerbaijani President sent a letter in this regard and as mentioned President of Kazakhstan Nazarbayev, founders of the union had already received this letter. The essence of the letter is that if such process occurs, the international legal norms and principles should be followed. It also shows that you - the heads of state have good relations with Azerbaijan and no steps should be taken to prejudice Azerbaijan’s interests. From the first moment the letter was positively accepted. Kazakh President Nazarbayev said that they should pay attention to this issue and shouldn’t cause concerns of the Azerbaijani Republic”.

Mammadov stated that Azerbaijan doesn’t plan to join the Eurasian Economic Union. “We are not thinking about it yet. We are only interested in Armenia’s accession to the Union”, he said.

Mammadov also emphasized that as the norms and standards of the international law are ignored today, there appeared hotspots and problems around the world.
