Azerbaijan to extend term of imprisonment for treason from 10-15 to 12-20 years

The Parliament told APA that the Azerbaijani President has proposed an amendment to article #274 of the Criminal Code in this regard.

According to the amendment, State betray, that is deliberately action committed by a citizen of the Azerbaijan Republic to detriment of the sovereignty, territorial integrity, state security or defensibility of the Azerbaijan Republic: changeover to enemy side, espionage, distribution of the state secret to foreign state, rendering assistance to a foreign state, foreign organization or their representatives in realization of hostile activity against the Azerbaijan Republic is punished by imprisonment for the term of from twelve up to twenty years or life imprisonment.

Currently, the legislation envisages 10-15 years imprisonment for these crimes.

The draft was recommended to the parliament’s plenary meeting.
