Azerbaijan comments on situation on drug abuse and illicit drug trafficking in neighboring countries

Baku. Ramiz Mikayiloglu – APA. There are 2.5 million drug addicts in neighboring Russia, says the report “Drug control in Azerbaijan Republic for 2013” made by the Working Group of the State Commission on Fight Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Drug Trafficking, APA reports.

The document notes that according to 2013 statistics, 20 percent of drug addicts in Russia is pupils, 60 percent – young people under the age of 30 and 20 percent – old people. In 2013, Russian law-enforcement bodies removed over 38 tonnes of drugs from illegal turnover.

There are 1.5 million registered drug users in Iran. 700 000 of them are constantly using drugs. In 2013, Iranian law-enforcement bodies removed over 430 tonnes of drugs from illegal turnover.

200 000 drug addicts were registered in Georgia.

There are 4 million registered drug users in fraternal Turkey. 2.19 percent of them are constantly using drugs. Last year 38 534 people were brought to account over drug use. In 2013, 46 tonnes 918 kg cannabis, 6 tonnes 412 kg heroin, 106 kg hashish and 589 kg cocaine were removed from illegal turnover.
