He said that eastward expansion by NATO was one of the reasons of the decision made regarding Crimea.
“I said that there is no need for new countries’ joining NATO, cooperation can be established basing on bilateral agreement on security, we were said that it is not your job. Thus, NATO troops’s appearing in Sevastopol would have been of geopolitical importance for Russia. NATO sought to squeeze Russia out of the Black Sea region. We will take relevant measures regarding NATO’s expansion. We will do our best to ensure the security of Russia,” he said.
