Noting that the Crimean Tatar suffered from Stalin’s repressions, Putin said the process of annexing Crimea to the Russian Federation should be conducted in parallel with the restoration of the rights of the Crimean Tatars.

Putin recalled that Catherine II signed a decree to respect the rights of the Crimean Tatars when Crimea was annexed to the Russian empire in the 18th century. The Russian President stressed that this policy will continue.

“A decree on rehabilitation of the Crimean Tatars is being developed. And not only on Tatars. Armenians and Germans also suffered during Stalin’s repressions,” Putin said.
