Baku-APA. Germany will support NATO in its plan of strengthening presence in Eastern member states with a ship and fighters, German media reported on Wednesday, APA reports quoting Xinhua.

Germany would send a supply ship and about 45 soldiers as well as six fighter planes to participate in NATO's planned military activities as a response to the Ukraine crisis, a spokesman of German Defense Ministry was quoted by German news channel N-TV as saying.

Beyond that, no further plans were unveiled regarding Germany's role in NATO'new move, according to reports.

NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen announced Wednesday that the military alliance decided to take "further military measures" to respond to the crisis in Ukraine.

"We will have more planes in the air, more ships on the water, and more readiness on the land," Rasmussen said after a meeting of the North Atlantic Council.

"As future military measures require, the alliance's policing aircraft will fly more sorties over the Baltic region, ships will deploy to the Baltic Sea, the Eastern Mediterranean and elsewhere," he said.

Rasmussen said these reinforced measures would start to be implemented "straight away," though he agreed that a political solution is "the only way forward."
