Former Chief of General Staff of Azerbaijani Naval Forces arrested over fraud and falsification of official documents

Baku. Hafiz Heydarov – APA. Former Chief of General Staff of Azerbaijani Naval Forces Yunus Mammadov has been arrested.

Baku Military Court told APA that Mammadov faced charges under article #178.3.2 (fraud) and article #320.2 (falsification of official documents) of the Criminal Code and sentenced to 3-month pre-trial detention.

Defense Ministry’s press service confirmed the fact to APA.

The inspections cover the activity of the Naval Forces in the last 15 years. Investigators and representatives of the Finance Ministry questioned ship captains. As a result of initial investigation, the facts were revealed on misappropriation of a great deal of funds when Vice Admiral Shahin Sultanov was commander.

6 servicemen of the Naval Forces were detained.

During inspections, a number of shortcomings were revealed regarding the repair and supply of ships. The facts are related with misuse of funds allocated for the repair of ships of in the Naval Forces, getting additional funds for maintaining ships taken out of service, purchase of a hundred tons of paint for painting ships with fake documents, carrying out repair works at the expense of ship captains, privatization of Navy-owned accommodation and caterings establishments through fake documents and others.
