The parliament told APA that basing on this presentation, the draft on the appointment of Abdullayev as chairman of the Constitutional Court of Azerbaijan will be discussed at the next plenary meeting.
According the recent amendments made to the law “On the Constitutional Court”, chairman will be appointed for 15 years. Prior to the amendments, chairman of the Constitutional Court had been elected for 10 years.
Under the previous variant of the law, Abdullayev’s term of office will expire on June 25 this year, because he has been appointed on June 25, 2003. In this regard, the Azerbaijani President has submitted a draft to the parliament on his reappointment as chairman of the Constitutional Court.
